UT Austin Merchandise

College Merchandise is Synonymous with the University of Texas Longhorns

For 6 straight years, the University of Texas Longhorns has been the top selling college/university for college merchandise. Is it because of the quantity of the fandom or is it something deeper than that?
According the Collegiate Licensing Company, the University of Texas Longhorns is the #1 selling college for all merchandise. I couldn’t help but ask the question…why? Is it because their students are the most rabid fans? Or is it because their alumni are the largest? Or is it simply they have more pride then their cross state rivals in the Big 12 Conference.

When looking at the overall enrollment, you will see UT Austin is in the top 5, however, of the top five in quantity, none are ranked as high as UT Austin for merchandise sales.

College pride is not something that is leanred. It is engrained in generations of families, who watch their sports teams, huddle around the T.V. to catch the game with family and friends, and buy their schools colors to show their pride. It is passed down from generation to generation, and is something that brings people together year after year.

Share your college pride stories with Collegiate Living and let’s all congratulate UT Austin for their pride in all things “Longhorns”.

The CLC is the oldest and largest collegiate trademark licensing agency in the U.S. and represents nearly 200 colleges , universities, bowl games, athletic conferences, the NCAA , and the Heisman Trophy.

parents buying gifts for the college graduates

The Average College Graduation Gift Amount from Parents

College graduation is right around the corner, and inevitably the question comes up each year, what is the average college graduation gift amount that parents spend?

I think first we better understand what is average? Your son who went to Georgetown University might have a different concept of what average is, compared to the community college graduate.

Most parents feel like they have overpaid for their son or daughters college education in the first place. So the idea of gift giving is not exactly on the top of their list of how else to spend more money.

Regardless of how much you already spent, this is a time to celebrate your Childs accomplishments. A gift is still VERY appropriate but how much you spend should not be a reflection of their Ivy League upbringing or their community college education.

Graduation gifts do not need to be expensive, and they do not need to be the last gift they ever receive in their lifetime…we all know it won’t be. In fact, one of my favorite things to listen to people about after a wedding is how much fun they had, or how drunk Bobby got on the dance floor. But, no one cares about the food, yet more and more people spend so much time, effort and money worrying about it before hand. Well, the same applies here. While the gift is important, it should not be the focal point of this joyous event. In fact, quite the contrary…the gift should reflect who the graduate has become, and what their college experience meant to them.

Consider a gift for your child, by answering these questions. What degree did they receive? Will they be relocating to a new city? Are they moving into a new apartment?

Relocating Grad – whether it’s good news or bad news, your son or daughter may be moving away after their 4 glorious years already away. If they are offered a job in a different city, they will need lamps and lighting to brighten their way. And, there is no better way to keep their college traditions alive then a college tiffany lamp, or college neon lamp.

Fun Gifts – It doesn’t always have to be serious, as we know your son or daughter had a few not-so-serious moments along the way…after all, we all have a sense of humor right? A great idea for college graduates is a fun College bean bag toss game, or a college dart board for their new game room. This will also, help them get set up in new apartment and lets them begin to own their own home décor.

Jewelry – No matter the sex of your child, necklaces or bracelets are a great idea!

Dark Cherry Wood Diploma Frames – Ah, justification for higher education.
There truly is no better way to admire your son or daughters achievements by showing them how much the diploma means to YOU! Frame their diploma and hang it up on your wall at home (if they are moving back in) or let them hang it with pride in their new home away from home. They will thank you for this one…I Promise!

Every parent needs to think wisely when gift giving to their college grad so utilize some of the ideas here or make a good gift decision based on your child’s wants and needs.

If Kenny Powers met up with the Most Interesting Man in the World

I caught up with the Dos Equis “Most Interesting Man in the World” and Kenny Powers of East Bound and Down and captured an exclusive conversation they had together. It went something like this.

Most interesting man in the world: “My mother has a tattoo that says Son.”
Kenny Powers: “Oh wow, you better be shittin me. What’s your name fuckin’ Shrek?”

Most interesting man in the world: “At museums, I’m allowed to touch the art.”
Kenny Powers: “You know what? I can already tell that I don’t like you. And I’m probably not gonna like you no matter how many pull-ups or push-ups you do.”

Most interesting man in the world: “I have won the same lifetime achievement award, twice.”
Kenny Powers: “When my ass was 19 years old, I changed the face of professional baseball. I was handed the keys to the kingdom, multi-million dollar deals, endorsements. Everyone wanted a piece of my shit. Just a man with a mind for victory and an arm like a fucking cannon.” But sometimes when you bring the thunder, you get lost in the storm.”

Most interesting man in the world: “I would not be ashamed to show my feminine side….if I HAD a feminine side!”
Kenny Powers: “Can I wear the Scream mask? The mask from Scream… when I do you from behind…”

Most interesting man in the world: “I once went blow for blow with a grizzly bear”
Kenny Powers: “I play real sports, not try to be the best at exercising!”

Most interesting man in the world: “While sailing around the world, I found a shortcut”
Kenny Powers: In Mexico, this is pretty much me, every day. Staring at butt holes and getting my buzz on.

Most interesting man in the world: “Im the most interesting man in the world”
Kenny Powers: “I’m the man who has the ball. I’m the man who can throw it faster than fuck. So that is why i am better than everyone in the world. Kiss my ass and suck my dick… everyone.”

Most interesting man in the world: “If I were to punch you in the face you would have to fight off the strong desire to thank me”
Kenny Powers: “If you wanna fight, you do it on your own time. In a parking lot somewhere. Not in a school surrounded by books”

Most interesting man in the world: “I once had an awkward moment, just to see how it felt.”
Kenny Powers: “Doing what? Giving Robocop a blowjob?”

Most interesting man in the world: “My business card simply says ‘I’ll call you.'”
Kenny Powers: “Fuck that noise”

Most interesting man in the world: “I don’t always drink beer, but when I do, I prefer Dos Equis.”
Kenny Powers: “You’re Fucking Out!”

college preppy fashion clothes

Nostalgic College-Preppy Clothes are Back…Sort Of

Looking around college campuses today, you will not be hard pressed to find sweat pants with quotes written on the ass like “juicy” tucked into a worn pair of Uggs, while the guys rock the jeans that haven’t been washed for two weeks straight.

Knowing that dress standards on U.S. campuses aren’t what they used to be, it is mostly wishful thinking that older college styles may make a comeback. However, According to the Wall Street Journal, “jock-inspired styles cribbed from the golden age of collegiate athletics will win big this spring.”

We’ve all seen the “Social Network” and we were all inspired to launch our own web business that falls short of just under 100 billion dollars net value when Google purchases it. But, what we also saw was a montage of poorly dressed college student’s at the most prestigious Ivy Leave Harvard University.

Most college students today are dressing like they’re teenage girls hanging out in the mall scouring the place for guys who picked their clothes off the floor that morning.

According to Christian Chensvold, founder of the fashion website Ivy Style, most of today’s elite college students are “taking their style cues from the bottom of society, not the top.”

Aside from dressing like Fonszi and Richie from “Happy Days”, no one is suggesting that those styles get pulled back into the throws of modern day college campuses.
But, there is something to say about having some respect for yourself and allowing guys and girls to pay a little more attention to how they show themselves to the world, even if it is in a college cafeteria.

College nostalgia.is a huge factor in this new movement happening by style and fashion companies. There is a current trend to go back to bascis and add some old school college style into the current fashion trends of today. Just take a look at Vineyard Vines, Tommy Hilfiger, and J-Crew. All of these companies are focusing more on the “Preppy” look, with a little less “Preppy”.

You don’t have to row for Princeton or play squash at Yale to dress like you do. But, what you do have to do is still get the style right. If you over do it, you will look like you trying to bring back the 50’s style of Richie Cunningham. If you fall short, you will continue down the path of Kurt Cobain meets legally blonde in some hodge-podge fashion faux-paux.

So, pick your clothes up off the floor. Get them cleaned and pressed. Go online and find a few new styles you like, and upgrade your current wardobe.

Give it the ‘Ol College Try! Afterall, College Girls dig the letter jacket!
